Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Rhumb Line Apps LLC (“Rhumb Line Apps,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with our websites and mobile applications, including ICW Planner (collectively, the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information we do not collect
We designed our apps to work without collecting personal data. Specifically, we do not:
- Require you to create an account or provide your name, email, or phone number to use the app;
- Use third-party advertising networks or show ads;
- Embed third-party analytics, tracking, or attribution SDKs;
- Collect the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) or engage in cross-app or cross-site tracking;
- Sell, rent, or share your personal information with data brokers.
2. Information processed on your device
To do its job, the app stores and processes certain information locally on your device. This information is not transmitted to us:
- Trip and boat details you enter — such as starting mile marker, cruising speed, boat dimensions, and saved routes — are stored on your device so you can reuse them.
- App settings and preferences, including your Pro entitlement status.
- Cached marine data (tide/current predictions and notices) is saved on your device so the app keeps working offline.
3. Location information
ICW Planner offers optional features that use your device’s location — for example, alerting you when you enter a speed, no-wake, or manatee zone while underway. When you enable these features, iOS asks your permission and the app uses “when in use” (foreground) location only.
Your location is processed on your device to determine your position along the waterway. We do not transmit, store, or share your location with our servers or any third party. You can grant or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. The app’s location features are optional; the core planner works without them.
4. Purchases
Optional Pro features are sold as in-app purchases and subscriptions processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment and receives the associated transaction information under Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store your payment card details. We receive only the anonymous entitlement information needed to unlock the features you purchased.
5. Third-party data sources the app contacts
To provide up-to-date marine information, the app retrieves publicly available data directly from government sources. These requests ask for public data (such as tide predictions for a station or notices for a region) and do not include your personal information. When you use these features, your device connects to:
- NOAA Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) and NOAA chart services — tide and current predictions and chart imagery;
- U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center (NAVCEN) — Notices to Mariners.
These providers may receive standard technical information inherent to any internet request (such as your IP address) and handle it under their own privacy practices. We do not control these third-party services.
6. Data retention
Because your trips, settings, and cached data live on your device, they remain until you delete them or remove the app. Deleting the app removes this on-device data.
7. Children’s privacy
Our Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Security
Because we don’t collect your personal data on our servers, there is no central store of your information to breach. Data on your device is protected by iOS’s built-in security. Network requests to the data sources above use encrypted connections where the provider supports them.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights regarding personal information. Because we do not collect or store your personal information, we typically have no such data to access, correct, or delete. If you believe we hold information about you, contact us using the details below.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
